Bill thought that this was a good idea and I have to agree. We’re going to try to update readers as often as possible on small projects, normal day-to-day things we do so customers and potential customers get a better idea of what we do with our time. Big projects seem to get all the press and photos, this is usually because the cars involved sit around for a long time and we have time to document and take photographs.
For this post I’ll add photos tomorrow when I get to work.
Yesterday
Nick removed the transmission from an Element. It’s a 5 speed; was a 5 speed. Our friend Austin wanted to get the most from his gas money on his long commute. He saw online that someone had literally added the 6th gear from an RSX to the 5 speed AWD box, along with the fork and syncro assembly. Once the transmission was out of the element (no small feat as the subframe has to be completely removed) Bill went to work. I don’t know much myself about transmission work but it didn’t seem to phase Bill. He had the transmission back together later that day since we had preordered the parts. 1-6 were nice and smooth. We topped it off with factory Honda gear fluid and a black DSG shift knob.

We also put the final touches on re-prep for Toltec Rally Team’s PGT WRX. The Toltec team is going for a testing weekend at Tim Oneil’s Rally school and DSG was asked to replace some worn bushings, a bent control arm, swap to cut snow tires and set pressures, chassis alignment, and make some small suspension damping changes for snow-optimization. The car was finished on time! (phew)
Today (Thursday)
I started the day by building a motor. This was a project that came to us in pieces. Usually we would have simply said no to something like this but the circumstances were such that we wanted to help a long time business partner. The valves had to be re-shimmed and the engine rebuilt from a pile of parts, nuts and bolts thrown into a box. The project is coming out quite well while simultaneously exceeding my expectations in terms of how much time it’s taking. Specifically it’s an EJ25 Axis block with an AVO turbocharger for a Legacy GT. While this can probably be considered a “large” project we do 2-3 Subaru short block replacements per month. I’m also building a similar motor for a GD STI which will have a nice set of Daddy’s Headers and a fresh tune when it’s done. Those are two of three Subaru motors in process now.

This afternoon Bill and Nick worked on a nice 2006 Legacy GT, adding some Bilstein struts, lower control arm bushings, stainless brake lines, Hawk pads and flushing the brake fluid. This is a nice, satisfying job that I wish we had more of. One day turnaround and a good performance addition to the car.

In the mail-
A nondescript cyan colored envelope came from our Japanese friends at IA Tec. We have been corresponding with them for a few years now in hopes that we can together expand our racing efforts once the economy allows it. IA-Tec is a top Japanese Nissan tuning shop who builds, campaigns and restores performance cars. They have competed professionally in Super Taiku and the Super GT GT300 as well as the March Cup. I digress. Today, in this envelope, wedged between two layers of protective cardboard we found reproduction brochures of early PGC10 and KPGC10 Skyline GTR that show all interior options, as well as factory gearbox options and other dealer extras. The cars have such a following that there is business in reproducing the original sales brochures! We’ll scan a couple of pages. It’s very interesting.

I also got my Oreca 3-bar boost gauge. It’s the best high reading analog gauge we’ve found. We’ll be stocking them soon. I will also post a photo of that later.
We could really use some more “regular old” maintenance work. Clutches, brakes.. you name it. One day jobs help our bottom line a lot more than jobs that are long term. If you have any small projects that need tending to before the car season starts please email!

Photos soon!

Cool.
Alex, see if you can get your web guy (Ron) to add some more space to your right margin?
Hey,
Can you guys do a wheel bearing replacement on a 2003 Ford F350 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel named “The Silver Cowboy”?
@Jeff: How much space?
