Despite the usual run-in issues with a complete new build, the Evo performed better than ever, a full 8 seconds faster than 2008 due mostly to new BFGoodrich R1 tires (available through us) and fresh suspension that was set up in house by Scot.

Other important changes to the car for 2009 included a fresh motor,  built here at the shop and a new tune with anti-lag tuned by Matt. The anti-lag helped enormously on the tight course and the car felt more powerful than ever. .. so powerful in fact, that I had a small crash on turn 13 during Sunday’s timed runs.  I essentially overcooked the corner and got caught on the wrong side of the road crown, then onto the wet margin of the road. The car hit a huge rock and damaged a wheel and the suspension.

With the help of my friends we got the car running again about an hour later and literally seconds under the time cut for the last run. With dirty hands and knees I ran the car to the start line where my friends encouraged me to run despite a grinding noise coming from the crashed front right. The noise tuned out to be a bad wheel bearing which made me more nervous than I’ve ever been while driving.  The car tech’ed back into the event because there was no wheel play and the noise wasn’t evident until I drove to the start.

The video is cut so the sequence of the run is intact only the in-car is from another run since I only have a camera. The final run was FTD at 2:49. Good for the win!

Other DSG serviced cars did great, all made it through the event without issue! Pierre’s car ran a 3:01 on corded front tires and Tony ran a 3:07 at his first hillclimb Ever! Great driving by Vlad and Tony L also at their first event. Everyone had a great time.
