Matt Finishes his 2nd RallyMoto

Matt Finishes his 2nd RallyMoto

And Lives To Tell About It!

Sandblast 2009 was my 2nd RallyMoto event and a real test of man and machine on the soft sand of South Carolina.  After Black River Stages in September, I had gotten a taste of RallyMoto and needed more!  In a borrowed truck (thanks to Niall and the Toltec Rally Team) I headed south to Cheraw, SC.

After suffering through an 18*F night in a tent, the weather turned warm and we were blessed with blue skies and mild temperatures.  My ace service team, Aaron and Nick (both rally noobs) kept me hydrated, fueled, and cool when I freaked out.  They also found out about the party that occurs after any rally.

I ended up second to last, which in my mind was a huge victory.  Having just started back up on a motorcycle this past August after a 10+ year break, I’m starting small and trying to learn as much as I go.

Thanks to Martine for putting up with not seeing me every night after work (due to practice or preparation) and the horrible financial hardships suffered as a result of my motorsports addiction.

Thanks also goes out to my friends and coworkers at DSG.  Alex, Bill, Nick, and Scot have all helped me in one way or another and I wouldn’t have been able to do this without them.

Another HUGE thanks goes out to Anders, Amy, and all of those volunteers!  Without you, we’d all be riding by ourselves wondering how we stack up against the rest.  NASA and RallyMoto ™ have really come though for the 2 wheeled community.
